Zaptec Go or Go 2? Choose the added features you will actually use

Both the Zaptec Go and Go 2 specifications show a maximum of 22 kW. If your car can accept no more than 11 kW at home, that figure does not make the choice any easier. Compare the features you will actually use.

Three situations are worth considering: straightforward home charging, a defined metering requirement and operation coordinated with the home's own energy generation. A different benefit matters in each case.

Settle the speed question first

Under suitable conditions, Go can provide alternating-current (AC) charging at up to 22 kW. The Go 2 data sheet also specifies 22 kW on a three-phase TN network at 32 A. See the figures on the Go product page and in the Go 2 data sheet.

In our example, the car accepts 11 kW AC and the home can provide it continuously. In ideal conditions, either charger can deliver 22 kWh measured at the charger in two hours. Go 2 does not shorten the charge in this situation.

Real charging time depends on the car, electrical supply and controls. First establish when your daily energy requirement can be replenished, then decide what else you expect from the charger.

If you want a convenient home routine

You arrive in the evening, plug in and leave in the morning. What matters is a sensible charger position, a cable that reaches the car comfortably and access to the charging data.

The compact Zaptec Go suits that use well. When choosing it, consider together where it will sit, how it will connect to the internet and how much charging current the home can support. All affect daily use.

The task is easy to state: replenish the energy needed for the next journey on your own driveway. If you have no additional metering or control requirement, that gives you a clear benchmark for the quote.

If you need consumption data at month-end

The situation changes for a company car or several users whose consumption must be tracked separately. Explain at the first discussion what report and measurement are required.

Go 2 includes an integrated MID Class B energy meter and display. MID is short for the European Measuring Instruments Directive. A compliant meter is not by itself a complete invoicing or tax solution. The manufacturer's Go 2 data sheet sets out its metering.

If your agreement requires this measurement, the feature solves a real task. You also need to identify sessions and agree a reporting method. A sample report quickly shows whether the system provides the data you need.

If you are planning around the home's energy

With solar, first establish when the car is at home and what surplus remains after household demand. Comparing sunshine with the car's availability indicates which controls may help.

In a properly designed system, Go 2's documented switching between one and three phases can help use periods of lower power. Verify the exact prerequisites—online connection, wiring and control—during design. See the Go 2 phase-switching guide.

Both models have documented third-party solar integrations. Establish what measures surplus and what controls charging. The Zaptec integration description covers the external interface. Focus on the particular job Go 2 could make easier, such as charging at lower power through a long work-from-home day where the completed system supports it.

Call a future possibility what it is

Go 2 is described as V2G-ready: prepared for possible future bidirectional energy flow between car and grid. This is not an operating Hungarian V2G or home-supply V2H service, nor a promise of backup power during an outage. The Go 2 product page explains its V2G readiness.

Separate what you can use today from what you are planning for the future. You can then judge today's value clearly even if a later function also needs another car, software or service.

Three lines are enough for an initial model choice

Note the energy you regularly need to replenish, whether a defined metering report is required and the specific energy management you want. Add the car model and the home's electrical characteristics.

For a simple home routine, look more closely at Go. If you need MID metering, a display or additional energy control that can be implemented in your system, examine Go 2. The point is to use every extra feature you choose.
